Abstract
The lagoon basin overlooked today by the remains of the Punic city of Othoca has been the subject of underwater archaeological investigations since 2005. These identified and partly excavated intact contexts of Punic age. In the investigated deposits, still of uncertain interpretation, intact transport amphorae containing archaeozoological and carpological remains, pottery, coroplastics and wood, even worked, have been recovered. At the same time, geo-archaelogical investigations were performed (14 borehole cores and several km of seismic and geoelectric prospection) and allowed us to recognize the stratigraphic evolution of the Santa Giusta Paleo-lagoon, where the Othoca harbour was located, connected to the sea through the river mouth of Tirso river, and the subsequent alluvial filling.File | Size | Format | |
