Abstract
The paper aims at highlighting the contribution of the various ‘actors’ of Roman law and legal science to the development of legal solutions capable of addressing and preventing crises, also having an eye to the economic interests involved. To this end, the first part of the study focuses on Roman commercial law and, in particular, on some fragments on the law of sale and of lease and hire. In this part, it is argued that the classical jurists contributed to the development of a legal framework that favored transactions within a reliable market and thus prevented a so-called market crisis. In the second part, the study turns to sources related to the Roman law of testamentary succession. In this part, we argue that by introducing certain exceptions from the general formal requirements of a testament, the Roman jurists and the imperial administration proved themselves to be able to deal with other types of crises, such as military, health and individual crises, in an effective way.Items in DSpace are protected by copyright, with all rights reserved, unless otherwise indicated.
