Abstract
Egiziaca practices prostitution since adolescence: but not out of compulsion or necessity, which indeed she refuses any compensation linked to her services that she offers for free. Rather she is driven by a strong narcissistic drive which makes her fascinated by her beauty and seductive capacity. Once converted, she practices the ascetic hermitic life in the desert beyond the Jordan. Here happens the meeting between her and the monk Zosimus, who sees her in the nakedness of her body, having now been torn apart, after forty-seven years of life in complete solitude, the clothes that covered her. The nakedness of her body leads her to lay bare her soul and her story which she tells Zosimus. A thin thread links prostitution and holiness: a going and a being beyond oneself, drawn by another force. Which makes her acquire, through her bodily maceration, the truth, which she offers to the monk through the narration of her own life experience.File | Size | Format | |
