Abstract
CrossFit is a training program that combines strength, cardiovascular, respiratory and muscular endurance, with flexibility and power. The present study used an experimen- tal approach in order to assess if a manipulation of the time at disposal to perform a Workout Of the Day (WOD) influences self-efficacy, affective responses and performan- ce. Twenty-nine athletes were randomized in three groups: two experimental groups (EGs) and one control group (CG). All the athletes repeated the same WOD three times over six weeks. In the second session, only the CG had a standard time of six minutes, whereas a shorter time of ninety se- conds was assigned to the EG- and a longer time of ninety seconds to the EG+. The CrossFit Self-Efficacy Scale and the Exercise-Induced Feeling Inventory were administered befo- re and after each session, in order to assess changes on self-efficacy and affective responses. The performance was assessed by the coaches through a rating scale. The ma- nipulation affected self-efficacy: both EGs showed a rising of self-efficacy, compared to the CG. As regards affective responses, the manipulation affected the feeling of revitali- zation which increased in the EG- and positive engagement which increased in EG+. Only EG- showed a performance enhancement after the manipulation. The manipulation of feedback can affect self-efficacy, affective responses and performance in CrossFit.File | Size | Format | |
