Abstract
With the purpose of testing the significance of walking as a way of dwelling the Earth, the present essay investigates some crucial points of the reflection on walking, which has been dealt with during the XX century from various points of view and within various fields, from psychology to philosophy to the artistic practices. Such a reflection has often coined an ad hoc terminology in order to encompass the phenomenon in an adequate way. Among the terms that have been appositely created, the essay considers the following four: ‘odology’ (John Brinckerhoff Jackson), ‘hodological space’ (Kurt Lewin, Jean-Paul Sartre and Otto Friedrich Bollnow), ‘walkscapes’ (Francesco Careri), and ‘strollology’ (Lucius and Annemarie Burckhardt).File | Size | Format | |
